The Lab was founded within the Institute framework in March 1977. Since foundation till 2000 Professor B.I. Lyubimov (1930 - 2000), the founder of novel fundamental scientific & practically applied direction - the Drug Toxicology, headed the lab.
Ever since September 2000 the Laboratory is headed by professor, correspondent member of RAMS (2007) Andrey D. Durnev (birthdate 1955).

At present the Laboratory encompasses the following Divisions:
Chronical Toxicity;
Morphology;
Embriotoxicity and Teratogeneity;
Allergenicity and Immunotoxicity.
Scope of Lab activities
Preclinical study on the safety of newly designed pharmacological substances aimed to identify their side and toxicological effects;
Theoretical studies on drug toxicology, including methodological issues, improvement and extension of methods to assess the toxicological action of drugs, extending of investigations scope;
Education and training of specialists in drug toxicology field.
